Appeal letter templates that fit on a reviewer's screen

Meta's reviewers do not read essays. They check three things in the first lines: the policy area, the counter-claim, and the evidence attached. These are the statements we use on real cases, stripped of anything a reviewer cannot verify. Copy, fill the brackets, attach what each one names, and submit once through the official channel.

Last reviewed: 2026-09-15 · Official channels for each are listed in the resource hub.

Before any appeal: the eight-point check

  1. Screenshot the notice, the date and the exact wording before touching anything.
  2. Identify the policy area from the wording; it decides the channel.
  3. Rule out a takeover: search the attached email for security notices about changed details.
  4. Fix the cause first where one exists (landing page, unknown admin, unlicensed music), and keep dated evidence.
  5. Choose one channel, submit once, wait for the outcome.
  6. Add new evidence before using the next channel; never resend the same text.
  7. Keep a log: channel, date, reference number, attachments.
  8. Ignore every unsolicited offer of help. Recovery has official doors; everyone else sells a picture of one.

1. Disabled account, wrongful decision

When to use it: Instagram or Facebook disabled the account for a policy area you dispute: impersonation, intellectual property, fraud or scam, authenticity, or a generic community standards notice.

Where it goes: In-app appeal at login first; then the Help Center disabled-account forms with attachments.

Attach: Government ID (in the flow only), documents bridging a professional name to the legal name, the impersonation or IP report reference if one exists, the notice screenshot.

Avoid: Do not describe how much the account means to you, do not list other accounts that got away with worse, do not submit the same text daily.

Every official appeal option, in order →

Template
Account: @handle, created [year], disabled on [date].
Notice: "[exact wording from the disable screen]".
The decision is wrong because: [one sentence, e.g. this is my original account, active since 2016; the account impersonating me is @copy, reported on [date], reference attached].
Identity: government ID attached in the name [legal name]. The account uses my professional name [name]; the connection is documented in the attached [business registration / trademark / press].
No security changes were made to the account before the disable (checked).
Requesting review.

2. Hacked account, contact details changed

When to use it: An attacker changed the email, phone, password or two-factor settings. Use with the hacked-account flow and, if it stalls, the compromised-account contact forms.

Where it goes: instagram.com/hacked or facebook.com/hacked; then the Help Center compromised-account forms.

Attach: Meta's security emails about the changes, screenshots of the attacker's posts with timestamps, ID in the flow, a police report if money was lost.

Avoid: Do not request login codes before the email account is secured; do not create a replacement account; do not pay anyone who offers to reverse it.

The official recovery path, step by step →

Template
Account: @handle. Taken over on [date, time if known].
Changes made by the attacker: email changed to [unknown] on [date]; phone changed on [date]; password changed on [date]; two-factor enabled on a device that is not mine.
Original contact details: [email], [phone].
Recovery steps completed: security email links [used on date / expired], hacked-account flow started on [date], email account secured on [date].
Content posted by the attacker since [date]: [scam stories / crypto posts], screenshots attached.
Requesting identity-based recovery. Government ID and the original security notices from Meta attached.

3. Business Manager or ad account restriction

When to use it: Account Quality shows a restriction for unusual activity, policy circumvention, or an advertising policy violation on an ad, a page or a landing page.

Where it goes: Account Quality request-review on the restricted asset; then the Business Help Center for verified businesses.

Attach: Business registration, dated before-and-after evidence for the trigger (web archive captures, CMS history), screenshots of the security actions with dates.

Avoid: Do not open a new Business Manager or ad account during review; do not delete assets or admins mid-review; do not let several admins file separate appeals.

How the Account Quality appeal actually works →

Template
Business: [legal name], Business Manager ID [id], verified on [date].
Restricted asset: [ad account id / page], restricted on [date] for "[stated reason]".
Cause identified: [specific trigger, e.g. a login by our new media buyer from Lisbon on [date] / a client landing page edited on [date] to add an unsubstantiated claim].
Actions taken: [two-factor enforced for all admins on [date]; unknown role removed; landing page corrected on [date], live at [URL]; business verification completed].
Requesting review of the restriction on [asset]. Supporting documents attached: [list].

4. Impersonation report against a fake account

When to use it: Another account uses your name and photos, or a business is being copied. Filed from the fake profile or through Meta's impersonation form.

Where it goes: Instagram or Facebook impersonation report (Report, then "pretending to be someone else", then "me" or "my business"); the browser form works without an account.

Attach: ID or business documents in the form, screenshots of the fake with the handle visible, examples of the stolen photos beside your originals.

Avoid: Do not organise mass reports; do not message the fake; do not create a second real account to "prove" identity.

Getting a fake account removed →

Template
I am reporting @fake for impersonating [me / my business, legal name].
My original account: @real, active since [year]. Verified identity: government ID attached [or business registration / trademark number].
The fake account uses [my name / my logo / my photos from posts dated [dates]] and [messages my contacts asking for money / sells under my brand name].
Victims or evidence: screenshots attached with dates.
Requesting removal of the impersonating account.

Questions people ask before pasting

Does Meta read appeal letters?

Reviewers read short, specific statements attached to the official forms. They do not read essays, and automated triage rejects submissions that add no new information. Every template on this page is built to fit on one screen and to name the policy area, the counter-claim and the evidence.

Where do I paste the appeal text?

Into the free-text field of the official channel that fits the case: the in-app appeal at login, the Help Center disabled-account forms, Account Quality for advertisers, or the impersonation and intellectual property forms. Never into a DM, an email to a stranger, or a page reached from a message.

Should I attach my ID with every appeal?

Attach a government ID only inside Meta's own flows when they ask for it. Most disable and takeover reviews need identity; most content removal reports do not. Never send your ID to a service or person who offers to file for you.

Can I use these templates for Facebook?

Yes. The disable, takeover and Business Manager templates apply to Facebook profiles, Pages and ad accounts with the platform name changed. The channels differ slightly; the resource hub lists each.

If the case has already been rejected once

A template is not new evidence. If a first appeal came back rejected, the next submission has to contain something the review could not see: an identity bridge, ownership records, a report reference, proof that the cause was fixed. Our final decision guideexplains what still counts, and a free case review tells you honestly whether there is a path.

Want the appeal written for your case, not from a template?

Every case starts with a free review. We diagnose the exact flag, prepare the evidence a reviewer can verify in one pass, and file through the official channel in the right order. No hacks, no insider contacts, no guaranteed outcomes.
