Instagram does not have a customer support phone number, and Meta does not publish a general support email for Instagram accounts. You reach Instagram support through the app and the Help Center, and the right channel depends on the problem: a hacked account, a disabled account, a glitch while you are still logged in, a business or ad issue, or a copyright report.
That is not the answer most people want. In the US alone, roughly 10,000 people a month search for an “Instagram support number” (Semrush, September 2026), usually in the worst hour of their online life. This guide maps every real channel to the problem it actually solves, and shows how the fake numbers that fill those search results work.
The short answer
- No phone line, no general email. Nobody at Meta answers a phone about Instagram accounts.
- Hacked? Start at instagram.com/hacked or Meta’s Account Recovery Hub.
- Disabled or suspended? Log in to the account and follow the review on the notice screen.
- Still logged in? Use the support hub and AI support assistant inside the app, or Report a problem.
- Meta Verified subscriber? Your subscription includes chat or email support for that account.
- Business or ads? Meta’s business support, through the Meta Business Help Center.
- Copyright, trademark or impersonation? Meta’s dedicated report forms.
Is there an Instagram support phone number?
No. Meta does not operate a phone line for Instagram account support, and no phone call can unlock, restore or review an account. The number most often listed online, 650-543-4800, is the main line of Meta Platforms, published on its filings with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. It is a corporate headquarters number. It does not open a support case.
Every other “Instagram helpline” is either a third-party directory number or a scam. When we checked the search results for “Instagram support number” in early October 2026, they included user-submitted pages on a book-quotes website and PDF files uploaded to a university’s web forms, all advertising “24/7 Instagram agents”. Those pages exist because scammers know that people search for a number when they panic. The person who answers will ask for your login details, a verification code or a payment. That is the whole business model.
Is there an Instagram support email?
No general one. Meta does not list a support email for Instagram users, and its old web forms for disabled accounts have been retired. Addresses that still circulate on forums and in old articles are not a working support channel, and writing to them will not open a case.
Emails from Instagram are a different matter, and recognizing them protects you. Meta sends its messages only from these domains or their subdomains: fb.com, facebook.com, facebookmail.com, instagram.com, meta.com and metamail.com. Instagram’s security alerts, such as “your email was changed”, come from security@mail.instagram.com and often include a link to reverse the change. If a message about your account comes from any other domain, it is not from Meta.
The real channels, matched to your problem
1. You can still log in
If you can open the account, everything you need is inside the app. Meta has been rolling out a central support area in the apps’ help settings since December 2025, and in March 2026 it added an AI support assistant. Meta says the assistant can explain options, walk you through steps and take some actions for you, including submitting appeals. Chats can only be started by you, never by a message you receive.
For bugs and broken features, use Report a problem: open your profile, tap the menu, go to Help and choose Report a problem. Meta’s instructions are on its Help Center page for technical problems. On many app versions you can also shake your phone on the screen where the problem happens. Reports help Meta fix issues, but in our experience they rarely bring a personal reply. Our guide to Meta’s two support hubs explains what each one fixes.
2. Your account was hacked
This is the best-served problem on the list. Go to instagram.com/hacked, or start from Meta’s Account Recovery Hub, which groups the official recovery links for Instagram, Threads, Facebook and Messenger. If the attacker changed the email, look for the security@mail.instagram.com alert in your inbox first; its link can undo the change. If the flow asks for a video selfie or ID, complete it carefully in one sitting.
When the email, phone and password have all been changed, order matters. Our step-by-step recovery guide covers it, and our hacked account recovery page explains how we handle the cases that stall.
3. Your account was disabled or suspended
There is no address to write to and no number to call. The review starts on the screen you see when you log in to the disabled account: read the notice, choose to disagree with the decision, and complete any identity check it asks for. The notice shows how long you have to do this, often 180 days, so do not spend that time waiting for a reply from a channel that does not exist.
Our appeal options guide lists the official routes that remain for disabled accounts, including what replaced the retired form. If you believe the decision is wrong and want an experienced second look at the case, that is the work behind our disabled Instagram account recovery service.
4. You subscribe to Meta Verified
Meta Verified includes account support through chat or email for the subscribed account. It is the closest thing Instagram has to a human support desk for individuals. Two limits matter: the subscription must already be active on the account with the problem, and the support agents do not overrule enforcement decisions. A disabled account usually cannot subscribe after the fact. Our Meta Verified guide covers when it is worth paying for.
5. It is a business or advertising problem
If your Instagram account is connected to a business portfolio or runs ads, Meta’s business support is a separate channel. It lives in the Meta Business Help Center and Business Support Home, where admins can request reviews for restricted ad accounts and assets, and where many advertisers can reach support by chat. Availability varies by account and region. For ad account and Business Manager restrictions, see our Business Manager and ad account appeals page.
6. Copyright, trademark or impersonation
Intellectual property and impersonation reports have their own official forms in Meta’s intellectual property help and the Instagram Help Center. These go to dedicated teams, and copyright removals come with a counter-notice process if the claim against you is false. Our trademark vs copyright guide explains which form fits which problem.
How fake Instagram support works
Fake support has three common entry points:
- Search results and ads with “24/7” phone numbers, like the pages described above.
- Comments and DMs from accounts with names like “Meta Support Team” or “Recovery Agent”, often minutes after you post about your problem in public.
- Emails and WhatsApp messages warning of a copyright violation or an imminent ban, with a link to “verify” your account.
All three end the same way: a request for your password, a login code, remote access to your phone, or a payment in gift cards or crypto. One test exposes all of them: real Instagram support never needs your password or a login code, and it never charges a fee to review an account. Our breakdowns of recovery scam messages and the copyright DM scam show the scripts in detail.
If you already shared a code, change your password from a trusted device, turn on two-factor authentication and remove any device you do not recognize. If you paid someone, contact your bank or card provider the same day.
What to expect, honestly
Meta does not publish response times for its support channels, and none of them come with a promised outcome. From our casework: when the hacked-account flow can verify you, recovery often takes minutes, because that part is automated. Human review of a disabled account takes longer, and a rejection that arrives within minutes usually means automated triage, not a person (why that happens). In the three anonymized cases we publish, accepted cases were resolved in 6, 9 and 17 days.
When outside help makes sense
We are not Meta, and there is no legitimate support line into it from outside. Any service that claims one is either misleading you or breaking Meta’s rules, which puts the account at further risk. What a legitimate consultant can do is use the same official channels with more precision: identify which route your case belongs to, prepare the evidence, and tell you honestly when there is no path left.
If you have worked through the channel that fits your problem and you are stuck, a free case review starts from your notice. We reply within 5 business days, we decline cases where the violation looks genuine, and we will never ask for your password or login codes.
Frequently asked questions
Does Instagram have a customer service phone number?
No. Meta does not run a phone line for Instagram account support, and no phone call can restore, unlock or review an account. Support happens inside the app and through the Help Center. Any number advertised as an Instagram helpline, especially one promising 24/7 agents, is either unrelated to Meta or a scam.
Is 650-543-4800 Instagram's support number?
It is the main telephone number of Meta Platforms, listed on the company's filings with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. It is a corporate headquarters line, not account support. Calling it will not open a case, and nobody on that line can review a disabled or hacked Instagram account.
Can I email Instagram support?
Meta does not publish a general support email address for Instagram users, and the old web forms for disabled accounts have been retired. Real Meta emails come only from fb.com, facebook.com, facebookmail.com, instagram.com, meta.com, metamail.com or their subdomains. Treat any other 'support' address as fake.
How do I talk to a real person at Instagram?
For most users there is no direct route to a person. The two exceptions are Meta Verified, which includes chat or email support for the subscribed account, and Meta's business support for advertisers. The support assistant inside the apps is an AI: it can guide you and file some requests, but it does not overrule policy decisions.
How do I contact Instagram if my account is disabled?
Log in to the disabled account and follow the notice on screen. That is where the review request, the option to disagree with the decision and any identity check appear. There is no separate email address or phone number for disabled accounts.
Will Instagram support ask for my password or a payment?
No. Nobody legitimate needs your password or a login code to help with an Instagram account, and Meta does not charge a fee to review one. A call, DM, email or WhatsApp message that asks for either is a scam, whoever it claims to be from.
