If TikTok rejected your verification request, read the rejection reason, wait out the period TikTok shows you, and resubmit only after you have fixed the requirement that failed. TikTok’s help page says exactly that: you can check the rejection reason and resubmit after the indicated waiting period. It does not publish one fixed wait for everyone, and the route it describes is resubmission, not an appeal against the decision, so the next application is your real second chance.
In our experience, most rejections trace back to one of TikTok’s four requirements, and most often to the same one: notability. This guide maps the usual reasons to the requirement behind them and covers what should change before you apply again.
The short answer
- Read the reason. TikTok tells you why. Start there, not with guesses.
- Respect the waiting period. Resubmitting is only possible after the period TikTok indicates.
- Fix the requirement, not the wording. A rejection is about the account or the coverage, not about how you filled in the form.
- Notability is the usual gap. Multiple news sources, none of them sponsored, social or outdated.
- Ignore anyone offering to fix it for money. TikTok does not charge, and sellers are not affiliated with it.
How rejection works on TikTok
The process is set out on TikTok’s verified accounts help page. You apply in the app under Settings and privacy, Account, Verification. You must provide credible written media coverage, such as news articles. TikTok notifies you of the result through TikTok notifications within 30 days. If the request is rejected, you can check the rejection reason and resubmit after the waiting period TikTok indicates.
Two things follow from that. First, there is no shortcut around the waiting period: no form and no support message moves it. Second, an identical resubmission will meet an identical result. Use the wait to change what was missing.
Match the rejection to the requirement
TikTok lists four account requirements. Here is how each one tends to fail.
Recognized: the profile was incomplete. TikTok requires a name, a profile photo, a bio and at least one public post. Accounts that keep everything private, or that cleared their posts before a rebrand, can fail here without realising it. This is the easiest one to fix.
Active: the account had not logged in recently. TikTok requires a login within the past 6 months. In practice it affects dormant accounts, such as a brand account nobody has opened in months. If you are applying, you are logged in, so this rarely explains a fresh rejection.
Authentic: the identity or account type check did not match. Personal verification requires identity verification. Business verification requires a Verified Business Account or an Organization Account. Institution verification requires official proof of affiliation. A business that applied as a person, or a person who applied as a business without the right account type, can fail here. Pick the verification type that matches who the account actually represents.
Notable: the coverage did not count. TikTok requires that you are featured in multiple news sources, and says it does not consider sponsored or paid media, social media posts, or outdated or irrelevant articles. This is where we see most rejections.
TikTok also names “unique” among the factors it considers, without defining it further on that page. If you run several accounts for the same person or brand, it is reasonable to apply with the one that the public and the press actually associate with you.
What weak coverage looks like
When a client shows us a rejected application, the coverage usually has one of these problems:
- Paid placement. Sponsored posts, advertorials and “as featured in” packages sold to creators. TikTok excludes sponsored or paid media, and these sites are built to look like news.
- One article. A single good piece, even in a respected outlet, is not multiple news sources.
- A passing mention. Your name in a list of twenty creators is not coverage of you. Articles that are about you or your brand carry the weight.
- Old news. A profile from several years ago, with nothing since, is the outdated coverage TikTok rules out.
- Your own channels. Interviews you posted on your own social accounts, podcast clips and reposts are social media posts.
What helps is the opposite: independent, written, recent coverage from publications with editors, about you specifically, from more than one source. That takes time to earn, and it is the one part nobody can manufacture.
Before you resubmit
Use the waiting period for a short audit:
- Profile: name, photo and bio filled in, at least one public post.
- Account type: personal identity verification for a person, VBA or OA for a business, proof of affiliation for an institution.
- Coverage: a list of articles, each one independent, recent and about you. Remove anything paid or social before you submit; padding the list does not help.
- Account standing: no recent run of violations. TikTok says all accounts, including verified ones, must follow the Community Guidelines and Terms of Service, and repeated or severe violations are a listed reason for removing a badge.
- Growth history: if followers or engagement were ever bought, stop. TikTok reserves the right to deny or revoke verification for accounts that meet its criteria through artificial or inauthentic activity.
If the honest answer to item 3 is “we do not have this yet”, the right move is to wait longer than the minimum, not to reapply on the first possible day. Our guide to Instagram’s notable verification route covers what earning genuine press coverage looks like, and the principles are the same on TikTok.
Red flags after a rejection
A rejection is when sellers get in touch. Messages arrive offering a “manual review”, a “priority resubmission” or a contact on TikTok’s verification team. TikTok’s position is simple: it does not charge for verification, anyone claiming to sell TikTok verifications is not affiliated with it, and it does not contact people by email, direct message or other channels to request a verification application, with one exception for Government, Politician, or Political Party Accounts. If you receive a suspicious message asking you to verify your account, TikTok asks you to report it.
The cost is not only the fee. Many of these offers ask for your login details, and a verification request can turn into a hacked account.
Keep the badge once you have it
When the request is approved, the rules carry on. TikTok says it may remove a badge at any time and without notice, for example if the username is changed directly instead of through a username update request, if account ownership is transferred, if the account loses VBA or OA status, or after repeated or severe violations. Our guide to getting verified on TikTok covers the full request path and these rules in one place.
When to get help
You do not need anyone’s help to reapply for TikTok verification, and it costs nothing. A second opinion is useful when you cannot tell which requirement failed, when your coverage is borderline and you want an honest read before you use another attempt, or when a business account may need restructuring first. Our TikTok account recovery and verification service starts with a free case review. We compare your profile and coverage against TikTok’s published requirements, we tell you plainly if the notability is not there yet, and we never submit requests for you or promise a badge. Only TikTok decides who is verified.
Frequently asked questions
How long do I have to wait to reapply for TikTok verification?
TikTok says that if your request is rejected, you can check the rejection reason and resubmit after the indicated waiting period. Its help page does not publish one fixed period for everyone, so use the period TikTok shows you rather than a number from a forum.
Why was my TikTok verification request rejected?
TikTok checks four requirements: the account must be recognized, active, authentic and notable. In our experience most rejections come from notability, which requires coverage in multiple news sources and excludes sponsored or paid media, social media posts, and outdated or irrelevant articles.
Will more followers get my TikTok verification approved?
No. TikTok says it does not consider the number of followers or likes when granting a verified badge. Bought growth can hurt: TikTok reserves the right to deny or revoke verification for accounts that meet its criteria through artificial or inauthentic activity.
Can someone fix a rejected TikTok verification for a fee?
No. TikTok does not charge for verification and says anyone claiming to sell it is not affiliated with TikTok. TikTok also says it does not contact people by email or direct message to ask them to apply, except for government, politician and political party accounts.
